Fake it! (part two)

We must show our bodies how we want it to react by “faking it” and deliberately making it work. We’ve done that with some basic questions, but let’s move on to some more emotional questions.

Emotional questions

We’ll now look for the photo of a battle. These are the photos we’ll be using:

The correct answer is picture number 2. I will make my body give the correct answer.

“Reveal the photo of a battle...”

Do it again

“Reveal the photo of a battle...”

The softest place

Our emotions and our physical sensations are intimately connected. That’s why we get feelings in our stomach when nervous, or weak legs when frightened.

So, let’s look at some photos about physical sensations. In this case, let’s find the softest surface. The question will be, “Reveal the softest surface...”.

“Reveal the softest surface...”

Obviously the answer is number 1, and I let my thumb escape on that picture on purpose.

Do it again

“Reveal the softest surface...”

Well done. That’s enough for now.

Do you get the point?

Do you see what we're teaching your body? We are showing it what we want it to do by instinct!

Right now we're faking it, you (probably) won’t be able to do it instinctively yet.

Eventually your body and mind will 'click' and will ‘get it’, but you must practice it many times. Then your body can do it on automatic pilot, instinctively, and it can answer questions based on the deepest feelings in your personality.

I’ve been using Finger-Testing for many years now. Once you ‘get it’, you’ll feel like you’ve always had the skill. Now let me show you what it looks like for real.

What answers from instinct look like

Here are my colleagues again. I’ll do this myself, you can take a break. Just watch me. After all, you don’t know these people.

I will ask myself a real question. The question will be, “Which person do I feel the most jealous of?”

Mark

Mei

Consciously, I don’t know the answer to this question. But my body will surely have a stronger feeling of jealousy towards one person more than the others – no matter how small that feeling may be.

So let’s find out who I feel the most jealous of, even if it’s only a tiny jealousy.

“Reveal who I feel the most jealous of: Jaques, Mark, Mei.”

As you can see, my body instinctively reacted on Mark. So, apparently, deep down inside, Mark is the person I feel most jealous of. I could ask my body follow-up questions to find out exactly why.

Now, was Finger-Testing the only way to find out this information? No...

  • I could have worked out the answer (but that’s hard, and how do I know I got it right?)
  • I could have talked with a therapist (but how would we know the therapist is right?)
  • I could have felt my muscles for tension or body language changes (but would I notice them?)

But when I use Finger-Testing, my body can instinctively tell me the correct answer straight away!

Soon you too will be able to answer such questions by instinct, but when?

It takes practice

Learning Finger-Testing it a bit like learning to drive. It takes practice before it becomes an instinct.

Imagine that someone said to you, “Oh I just can’t get the hang of driving”, and when you ask, “Did you get driving lessons from an instructor?” they reply, “No.” You think for a moment, and then ask, “So did you practice by yourself, or get lessons from a friend?” Again they say, “No”. So then, what exactly do they want? A miracle? A magic potion?

No one can gain a new skill without practicing it. No one can learn by magic.

So if you want to be able to do Finger-Testing, you must do the exercises in this tutorial, perhaps a few times!

How long does it take to learn?

Learning Finger-Testing is actually much easier than learning to drive, and it takes far, far less time.

Let’s compare:

Learning to drive

~45 hours of lessons; ~22 hours of practice

Learning Finger-Testing

~30 minutes of exercises; ~1 hour of practice

Everyone can find the time to learn Finger-Testing. Just do the exercises in this tutorial and you’ll be fine.

There’s more

Yes, Finger-Testing is the quickest way to see what you feel, deep down inside. We’ll do more exercises soon, but before that I’ll answer some of the most common questions about it.

Chapter review

  • Finger-Testing will eventually show you what you feel instinctively.
  • We’re faking it for now, just like consciously learning to drive.
  • It can’t be learned by magic – only by practice.
