Fake it! (part one)

Finger-Testing is a new instinct that allows you to see what you truly feel, deep down inside. It’s easy to learn. In this chapter I’ll teach you how to do it.

How to learn Finger-Testing

Illustration

In the previous chapters, I compared this new instinct to driving. Why? Well, when you first learned to drive, you probably didn’t know how to use anything. You had to look to see which pedal is the accelerator, which pedal is the brake, and which is the clutch (if you learned in a manual car). You didn’t know any of this by instinct. You had to learn these things.

Yet after passing your test and driving for a while, you know where all these pedals are instinctively.

We can even frighten ourselves sometimes, by getting into our cars and going on automatic pilot. We reach our destination and suddenly ‘wake up’, thinking, “Woah, how did I get here?” We couldn’t do that when we were learning to drive, but after we have learned, it’s all possible because of instinct.

It’s the same with Finger-Testing.

At first, we can’t do it automatically either, we can only do it deliberately and by thinking it through. Yet after a bit of practice our brains “get it” and can do Finger-Testing automatically, on automatic pilot.

How you will learn Finger-Testing

1

You will show your body how it’s meant to work.

2

You will show it again and again until it “gets it”.

3

Gradually, your body will start doing it instinctively.

Let me get you started.

Show your body how it should work

I'm going to ask myself a simple question and then show my body how I want it to answer. The question is this: “Reveal the sunny day...” I will use these photos:

When I look at the correct answer (photo 1), I will deliberately let my thumb escape to show my body how it should work. So, let’s do it.

“Reveal the sunny day...” Please play the video below.

Notice how I showed my body how Finger-Testing should work.

Yes, I deliberately let my thumb escape when looking at Photo number 1.

Follow along with me

Now you’re going to watch me do it again, but this time please do it along with me.

Put your fingers in position. Make an okay sign with one hand, put the thumb of your other hand inside it, and follow along. Yes, that’s an okay sign with one hand, and the opposite thumb inside it.

It doesn’t matter if you use your right or left thumb.

Remember, we’re going to deliberately release the thumb when the first photo appears. Ready?

“Reveal the sunny day...”

Well done. Let’s repeat that.

Do it again

Once more. Deliberately release your thumb on the first photo, again.

“Reveal the sunny day...”

Congratulations. You have begun learning Finger-Testing. Let’s keep going.

Which is the man?

Now let’s do another one together.

Remember, if you do this enough, your body will “get it” and eventually you’ll be able to answer any question by instinct. We’ll need to practice lots and lots of times before then.

Okay, here we go again, with some new pictures. The question is, “Reveal which person is a man...”

Follow along

Yet again, put your fingers into position and follow my lead.

“Reveal which person is a man...”

Again, I am deliberately letting my thumb escape on the correct answer.

Good. Let’s do it again:

Do it again

“Reveal which person is a man...”

I am still deliberately letting my thumb escape on the correct answer. You must too.

Which is the fatty food?

Now another, this time with pictures of food. The question will be “Reveal the fatty food...”.

Follow along

“Reveal the fatty food...”

I am letting the thumb escape on the correct answer, number 3, deliberately.

Once more:

Do it again

“Reveal the fatty food...”

I am still making my body answer correctly, here on number 3.

Emotional questions?

Now these are all quite dull questions. We want our body to instinctively react to emotional questions – this is, after all, an emotional therapy!

In the next chapter we’ll show our bodies how to react to some emotional questions.

Chapter review

  • You can’t learn Finger-Testing without doing these exercises, and those in the next few chapters.
  • You must show your body how it’s supposed to work first. You must ‘fake it’.
  • After a short time it will then become an instinct.
